Whether you are a designer, a printer, a booster club, a dance studio or a cheer coach… we should all have a mission to create our own market. Yes there are hundreds, thousands sometimes even millions of other businesses doing exactly what you do but that still doesn’t mean you are truly in competition with each other. How can that be? Is it not true that no two individuals are alike? If you answered yes (which you should have), then don’t those same two people bring something entirely different to the world each day? YES! So, if those same two people start a business, doing “what most people would consider the same business” they are in reality NOT doing the same business. Why? Because they think different, they identify with different people, they have a passion for different things and because of that it makes them UNIQUE. It makes their business UNIQUE.
Finding your niche market ultimately means you need to find ‘yourself’. What is your personal mission in life? What were YOU put on earth to do? Once you have truly answered that question you then need to apply it to your business. What then, is the mission of your business (being fully congruent with your personal mission)? Let’s take it a step further, you know YOUR mission, you know your BUSINESS mission, so what then, is the Vision… what do you want to be doing? who do you want to be doing it with? By answering these questions enables you to create your niche market. By determining that niche market you are then able to fully focus your attention on only attacting THEM, not someone you don’t want, not someone who doesn’t fit that market. It makes you stronger! It makes you focused! It makes you grow and ultimately as a business, as an individual, as an organization we need to grow all the time.
So, I challenge you… the designer, the printer the… create your niche and LIVE!
For a Class on finding your mission visit http://alwaysbusywomen.com and take a live experiencial workshop that will walk you through and provide accountability.
So, you want to start your own t-shirt line? Where do you start? What if you don’t have a lot of capital? We would like to introduce a program that we have been working on and it just might fit your niche! Here are some great steps that may take your idea “out of your mind… and into business!”
Step #1: Create a name for your line.
Believe it or not, your company names gives you direction and inspires others to look at your product!
Step #2: Create a logo (estimated $75+)
Create it yourself, or we can help or we can refer you to someone. Know what your budget is and go from there.
Step #3: Create a custom hang tag (design & print est $50-$75)
Adding your logo to the finished product is important. Hang tags are an inexpensive way to look professional. You also have the option of having your logo custom printed inside, but does cost more.
Step #4: Package it nicely. Wrap it in tissue, seal it with a logo label (1000 for $100 includes the design)
Professional presentation adds value to your product, it’s a basic part of business. You can purchase a ream of tissue (488 sheets for around $40, wrap your product nicely, seal it with a logo label and you have the look and feel of someone who has been in business for much longer.
Step #5: Create carbon less order forms with your logo (wholesale to retailers) Carbon less order forms are easy to create and you do not have to commit to hundreds.. in fact you can do as few as 10, but again, this provides you with a certain look.
Step #5b: Create a great website w/ shopping cart (retail) we work with some amazing web designers, my personal favorite is http://www.porchpuppyonline.com, the owner is known for working with small businesses on a budget OR
Step #5c: Create a retail sales slip (one-on-one retail sales or trunk shows) maybe you want to do boutique trunk shows or home shows, again, creating an order form that’s not hand written and that enables the client to keep a copy adds credibility.
Step #6: Start with a limited number of designs (we suggest 5)
It’s not about over extending yourself… its about pursuing your dream!
Step #7: Let us create samples (est 5 for $125, be sure to have them made in you and your families sizes), these will be used for web photos, sales fliers, sales kit, trunk shows, etc). From personal experience many years ago, I started out as a wanna be designer… had to get 4 dozen of the same design and I had no guarantees that it would sell… I still have some of those shirts. It is my vision to help others not make the same mistakes I did. It’s better to invest in one-of-a-kind and make your sales from that with minimal out-of-pocket expense.
Step #8: Create a drop ship program. We set a retail price with or without shipping, YOU market the product (wholesale or retail), we produce the order ON DEMAND, tag it, package it & blind ship it for YOU.
Drop Shipping is the future and we want to be one of the leading businesses producing amazing results and enabling people young and old to live their dream. Watch for Holt’s Designs… he’s 16 years old and launching his own t-shirt business all using designs he has hand-drawn himself!
I must confess, “My name is Cheryl, and I’m into “bling”!”… They used to say that bling would go out of style… I don’t believe that.
We offer 2 ways to do bling. Hand-Placed (this is where you pay by the piece), the advantages of this method are that you have no minimums and as a client you can offer it as an add-on, this is usually a better option if you are doing 20 crystals or less. Your next option is to create custom words or custom designs using “bling”. We have a minimum of 25 pieces and a set up fee (this usually involves 100+ crystals). It is still cost effective, but it does require and order of 25 instead of 1.
There are a lot of options out there when it comes to crystals. The name most people know is Swarovski, Other options include Czech, or even machine cut, low lead, 8 facet, nearly as sparkly as Swarovski but at a fraction of the cost…. then you can get into the super inexpensive nailhead…. Personally choices are made from a lot of factors…. how much money do you want to spend? what do you want your end price point to be? what is your project? who is your client? what is the art? Regardless, It is best to work with someone with alot of experience to lead you in the right direction.
One finaly note: It is also VERY important right now to be aware of crystals and their lead content… the State of California is highly regulating this now expecially if you resale children’s clothing
